Hello Band Families, and TGIF!

While everyone is thinking about Portland and tomorrow's big parade, please keep in mind that NEXT SATURDAY, June 13, is our annual Roosevelt Neighborhood Parade and Barbeque!

The parade starts at 2pm, and will be followed by a barbeque at school; we will wrap up at 4pm.

This is a fun local event, with tons of neighborhood support, and it's the perfect way to wrap up the year.
We will need folks to help out, so please let us know what you're able to do:
  • Set-up: we will use school grills and could use help with the set up of these as well as a few tables to hold food
  • Clean-up: we definitely need you to help with this!
Contact Tom Davies (phone: 206.403.0747 or email: wag8r@msn.com) to let him know how you'd like to help.

FOOD! We will provide burgers, dogs, pop/water and condiments, you bring the sides!
  • If your student's last name begins with A-M: please bring a side/salad/chips
  • If your student's last name begins with N-Z: please bring a dessert
Mr. Brown will tell students when they need to be at school that day - they will need to change into uniforms, and we will have Rowland Studios taking group and individual photos.

Just in case you need another reason to hold you head up even higher today...

On Saturday, May 30, our very own student-led RHS Drumline took first place in Garfield High School's prestigious Bulldog Drumline Expo! The competition featured some of the best local and state high school drumlines, and our own drumline took the top prize!

While our students are the winners, RHS Band Boosters also want to congratulate Mr. Brown and Aaron Walker-Loud, and thank all the parents who support our band programs. Under Mr. Brown's guidance, last year the Boosters provided funding for additional percussion sectional instruction by Mr. Walker-Loud. In-class instruction combined with outside practice and a group of enthusiastic, organized and dedicated students, have clearly paid off. Band Boosters hopes to add more sectional instruction next year. Stay tuned!

And you, each of you that makes our RHS Drum Line happen - we know that this BDX victory is a beautiful thing and was hard-earned. We couldn't be more proud. So if you see us walking by, lift your head up... we're doing the same!

If you missed it, you can catch the video on our Band in Action page.

Thank you!

Important for Band Families!

6/1/2015

Permission slips went home on Friday with most students.  If your student did not get one (or didn't get it to you yet) please look here: http://www.riderband.org/forms.html

Please complete it and return it to the BAND box by WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3.

Space is limited for this event-- only the first 100 students who turn in their permission slips and check will be able to go.  This is a SUPER fun parade, and we will be back to Seattle earlier this year because we are #7 in the lineup.

If you don't want to miss out on this spectacular parade, please consider being a chaperone-- we need 4-5 more parents willing to walk the parade and keep our kids hydrated while they entertain thousands of people along the 4.3 mile route.  We need to have a "uniform look" for the judges, so please wear khaki pants or shorts, a white shirt, and white shoes.
Please let Marika Wong know ASAP if you would like to help out: marikawong@aol.com

Additional housekeeping:
We still have 2 sleeping bags and some clothing not claimed from Spring Band Camp.
--One Cat's Meow North Face sleeping bag (tall size)--  If you own a tall bag, you may have picked up the wrong one.  Another student is missing the same style bag, but it was not hers.  Check to see if you have the right one.
--One Sierra Designs down mummy bag-- anyone own this one?  A nice bag to leave behind!
--white t-shirt
--black sport shorts
